LANSING, Mich. – A 67-year-old Petoskey man has been charged with allegedly stealing $100,000 from woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Michael Kennedy, a lawyer in Petoskey, was charged Monday by the Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.

According to Schuette’s office, the embezzlement started in 2006, but due to the statute of limitations, charges could only go back to 2009. The investigation alleges that Kennedy made a number of discrete transactions taking funds from the victim’s trust and made multiple deposits into his office checking account.  The victim died in August.

Kennedy was disbarred in March of 2015 by the State of Michigan Attorney Discipline Board. He was arraigned Monday on two counts of Embezzlement over $100,000, both of which are 20-year felonies.
