POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A motorcycle rider was hospitalized in serious condition on Friday morning after police say he was hit by the driver of a minivan who failed to notice his tail light.
It happened at 4:40 a.m. on westbound I-96 in Ottawa County’s Polkton Township near Coopersville. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, John Mattson was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle when he was suddenly hit from behind by Mark Ydenberg in a 2003 Honda Odyssey.
Mattson suffered a head injury and is in serious but stable condition. He was wearing a helmet.
Ydenberg was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
