BUSHNELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An  8-year-old girl was hurt after the Mennonite buggy that she was a passenger in was hit by a pickup truck.

The crash happened at the intersection of South Townhall Road and East Boyer Road in Montcalm County Tuesday afternoon at about 3:30pm.

Montcalm County deputies say that the horse and carriage was turning north onto Townhall Road when it was struck by a northbound pickup truck driven by a 47-year-old Fenwick woman.  The driver of the buggy and her three sisters were all thrown from the carriage.  Three of those in the buggy suffered only minor injuries and refused medical treatment, but an 8-year-old girl suffered a head injury and was flown to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The pickup truck driver was not injured.  The horse got loose, but  was later captured and was not injured.
