CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The West Michigan Whitecaps are Midwest League champions after defeating the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3-2 in Game 5 on Monday night.
The Whitecaps scored 3 runs in the fifth inning and held onto that lead to clinch their sixth Midwest League title.
The Whitecaps forced a decisive Game 5 by winning Game 4 Sunday night. West Michigan was 4-0 when facing elimination in the 2015 Midwest League playoffs.
Ross Seaton was the winning pitcher for the Whitecaps, pitching 6-2/3 innings, striking out seven. Joe Jimenez finished a scoreless ninth inning for the save.
