SAN DIEGO, Calif —
The Detroit Lions season opener against the Chargers in San Diego looked promising during the first half, jumping out to a 21-3 lead in the second quarter, but the Chargers scored 30 straight points to comeback and beat the Lions 33-28.
Phillip Rivers completed 35 of 42 passes for 404 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 19 of 30 passes for 246 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and rookie running back Ameer Abdulah ran for 50 yards and his first career touchdown in the loss.
The Lions will look to improve to 1-1 when they head to Minnesota to take on the division rival Vikings next Sunday.
