GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Apologizing publicly to friends, family, and his team, Grand Rapids Griffins veteran defenseman Nathan Paetsch spoke about his involvement with and the fallout of a gambling ring in New York that has sent associates of the 32-year-old to prison.

Paetsch plead guilty to charges stemming from his role as a recruiter for the ring. Paetsch's sentence includes eight months of home confinement (he can only travel to and from practices/games), 400 hours of community service, and repaying $265,000 in restitution.

The Griffins re-signed Paetsch to a one-year contract this summer.
