COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. -- Ross Kivett drove in two runs and Spencer Turnbull struck out seven batters in six innings of work as the West Michigan Whitecaps opened the 2015 Midwest League playoffs with a 5-2 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Wednesday.

The Whitecaps take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

A.J. Simcox and David Gonzalez also drove in runs for West Michigan. Gonzalez also helped turn a spectacular double play in the sixth inning, going full extension to his right at second base to rob Michael Gettys of a hit, then doubling off Edwin Moreno at first.

Game 2 is set for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Eastern in Fort Wayne. A decisive Game 3 will be played Friday at the same time in Fort Wayne if necessary.
