GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Walkers and runners of all ages joined Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell for the Grand Crossings Bridge Walk in honor of Labor Day.
The five-mile walk is Grand Rapids' version of the Mackinac Bridge Walk. This year, people had the option of running the route with the Grand Rapids Running Tour Company.
"You could drive up to Mackinac and walk the bridge with the governor, but what do you get? One bridge," Mayor Heartwell said. "But here you cross six bridges, so we think it's a pretty good deal."
The event is part of Governor Rick Snyder's Active Michigan summer initiative.
