COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The West Michigan Whitecaps are playoff-bound — and now have a second-half division title in their sights.
A.J. Ladwig threw seven shutout innings and David Gonzalez drove in the only run of a 1-0 Whitecaps win over Eastern Division-leading Fort Wayne — and South Bend and Lake County both lost on Wednesday to clinch at least a wild card spot in the Midwest League playoffs for West Michigan. It’s the first time the franchise has made the postseason in back-to-back years since 2006-2007, the tail end of four straight years of playoff baseball in West Michigan.
The win over the TinCaps also puts West Michigan three games behind Fort Wayne in the division race with five games left in the regular season.
PLAYOFF TICKET INFORMATION:
Tickets for the Whitecaps’ postseason go on sale on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. The team is also offering $2 lawn seats for kids 12 and under and half-price 20 oz. craft beers for the duration of the MWL playoffs. West Michigan will start their first playoff series on either Wednesday or Thursday.
