MSP: Body in Kentucky not likely to be missing Michigan woman

Posted

PAW PAW, Mich. – Police in Michigan are now doubting that the body of an unidentified woman is a missing woman from Michigan from 2000.

Tammie Briley of Mattawan was last seen in Battle Creek in September of 2000.  Michigan State Police were contacted this May when officials from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System contacted them about a body found in Kentucky in October of 2001.

The investigation has shown so far that the body that was found was of similar size to Briley, but not the right height.  Sgt. Michael Spring of the Michigan State Police told FOX 17 that they are 99% sure that it isn’t her.  Also, Tammie had no clear reason to have been in Kentucky, according to Spring.

DNA tests are still being performed.
