Scarf tangles in go-kart wheel, choking woman in Kent County

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A woman was seriously injured following a freak go-kart accident on Tuesday. Police said she was riding in a go-kart when her scarf got stuck in one of the tires.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. at AJ’s  Family Fun Center on Ball Park Drive in Comstock Park.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a report of someone having trouble breathing. When crews arrived, they discovered 40-year-old Rachel Gibbs from Great Britain was injured.

Gibbs was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital with life-threatening injuries.

As of Wednesday morning, Gibbs remains in critical condition at the hospital.
