ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- Michigan State Police say a Mendon gun shop owner, who was sentenced for having sex with underage girls, also had a hidden underground bunker in his yard where he stockpiled hundreds of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
John Feek, 32, maintained a secret underground bunker on his property packed with dozens of unregistered weapons, including fully-automatic firearms, grenades and thousands of rounds of ammunition, according to police.
Feek, who owned Feek Tactical, in Mendon, pleaded guilty several weeks ago for his involvement in sharing child pornography. Police told FOX 17 that Feek admitted to sexually assaulted two girls under the age of 13, who were also his relatives.
“Sometimes you see in the small towns like this, they’ve kind of blended in and his own family unfortunately were his victims," said Sgt. Todd Petersen, a detective with MSP.
He was sentenced to 25-50 years in prison.
Authorities said a high school guidance counselor first tipped off police.
Feek was charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual assault, one count of second-degree and five others in the fourth-degree.
During the investigation, police discovered the bunker and the dozens of weapons inside that had been manufactured by Feek; most were not registered.
“It was basically a full size semi container trailer that was buried in the ground," Petersen said.
"It had lights, running water, a kitchen, bathroom, storage facilities, he’d obviously spent a lot of money and time preparing that.”
Feek was a known federal firearms license holder.
“Anytime you’ve got someone who has a federal firearms license, it raises the stakes... just because he’s got access to so many high powered rifles and automatic weapons," Petersen said.
ATF is currently investigating and Feek could face additional federal charges.
