BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox announced late Tuesday evening that they’ve hired former Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski to be their president of baseball operations.
The Red Sox said in a statement that general manager Ben Cherington declined the opportunity to continue as the GM but has agreed to assist Dombrowski during the transition.
Two weeks ago, the Detroit Tigers announced Dombrowski had been released from his contract as general manager for the Tigers.
Al Avila was chosen to replace Dombrowski as the Tigers general manager.
