KFC replaces Darrell Hammond’s Colonel Sanders with Norm Macdonald

Posted

Norm Macdonald is your new KFC Colonel Sanders.

The “Saturday Night Live” veteran and “Last Comic Standing” judge has taken over KFC brand ambassador duties from fellow “SNL” alum Darrell Hammond, who began appearing in the company’s ads last May.

In the new ads, Macdonald claims Hammond’s Colonel was not the “real” Colonel and that he knows “how you sell chicken.”

“Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different and his inability to cook the world’s best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel,” says KFC US chief marketing officer Kevin Hochman in the company’s press release. “I think the fans will agree.”

For his part, Macdonald seems up to the task in bringing out a more smart-alecky side to the famous colonel.

“I was blown away when I learned that Colonel Sanders didn’t even start KFC until he was 65. That’s a whole lot of legend to fit into a couple decades, and it takes a strong work ethic, the kind you don’t see every day, to do it like he did,” Macdonald says in the release. “He never gave up, never accepted less than the best and never held back an opinion. Plus he looks great in white.”
