TEKONSHA VILLAGE, Mich. – A dog defended its owner by attacking a man who was assaulting the owner during a break in.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department responded to call at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday reporting a home invasion.

The 24 year-old homeowner says an acquaintance entered the house through an unlocked kitchen window and attacked him.

During the assault, the suspect was bitten several times by the owner’s dog, causing serious injuries.

Deputies say the suspect is a 22 year-old male from Coldwater. He was located at a local hospital receiving treatment for the bite wounds.

The suspect was later transferred to another hospital for reconstructive surgery.

The case is still under investigation.
