KENTWOOD, Mich. -- Community members gathered at Southeast Kellogsville Elementary School Saturday morning for the Running for Covers event. It was put on by a local family who knows the struggle of having a child in the neonatal intensive care unit all too well.
Mandy had little Paisley two years ago but spent countless days in the hospital while her newborn was in the NICU battling complications from being premature. During that time, Mandy says, she found comfort in a baby blanket given to her by a few nurses.
This sparked an idea, one that would inspire the community to give back and support the babies right here in West Michigan. She started Running for Covers, which collects baby blankets that will be donated to families who have children in the NICU.
