Newaygo Co. jail administrator arrested on OWI charge after crash

NEWAYGO, Mich. – A Newaygo County jail administrator was arrested just after midnight on suspicions of driving under the influence.

Newaygo deputies were called to a one-car crash on Dickinson Avenue near 16 Mile Road.  They found a vehicle had gone off the roadway and rolled over.

The driver of the vehicle was identified in a press release as Lt. Matt Froehle, the jail administrator for the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office.  According to the department, he was arrested for OWI and lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident and Lt. Froehle has been suspended while the investigation takes place.
