MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A Muskegon Heights woman was charged Thursday after allegedly trying to hire an assassin to kill her ex-husband.
Evelyn Smith, 40, allegedly offered the “assassin,” an undercover police officer, $200 for the killing, according to Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson.
She is currently being held on a $1 million bond, Hilson said. She was arraigned on a charge of solicitation to commit murder.
Smith was arrested after the undercover officer met with her Tuesday in Muskegon Heights, according to a release. Officials say they started investigating the assassination plot July 27 after being contacted by Smith’s ex-husband, a 43-year-old Muskegon Heights man.
