Body found behind Grand Rapids apartment complex identified

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A homeless man was pronounced dead after he was found unresponsive behind a Grand Rapids apartment complex on Saturday.

Grand Rapids Police Department received a call at approximately 11:40 this morning.

The caller said her neighbor found her relative’s body in the woods behind an apartment complex, located in the 2900 block of Marshall Avenue.

Police say the body was discovered by a family member near the Plaster Creek Trail and was unresponsive.

Police and the Grand Rapids Fire Department were taken to the area and tried to perform life saving measures.

The man was pronounced dead shortly after.

Family has identified the man as 53 year old Joseph Conigliaro. He had been homeless for at least two months, living in the woods.

At this time the cause of death is unknown.

Police are still investigating the death and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
