BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- After years of planning, Friday marked opening day for the Tanger Outlet Mall.

Many stores were offering giveaways to the crowds of eager shoppers and the day was even compared to the "Black Friday" rush.

Starting at 10 a.m. people were able to shop at more than 75 stores., such as Calvin Klein, Michael Kors , H&M and Polo Ralph Lauren.

Some waited in long lines hoping to meet Drew and Jonathan Scott from HGTV's "Property Brothers" show while others were eager to enter a drawing for a dream closet makeover. People could also enter to win a shopping spree worth $3,000.

The new outlet mall not only brought out the shoppers, but  1,200 new jobs to West Michigan.

Steve Tanger, president and CEO of the new mall, talked with FOX 17 about its impact.

"Together we’re creating jobs for the area residents and generating additional revenue which will stimulate local businesses and foster further economic development," said Tanger.

The project cost about $71 million to build.

"Now we stand here with a beautifully designed center with an outstanding collection of more than 75 of the most popular brand names in the world coming to your community," Tanger added.

It's located just off U.S. 131 and 84th Street in Byron Township.
