ROLLAND TWP., Mich. – Two people were airlifted to area hospitals after three motorcycles crashed Sunday afternoon in Isabella County.

The crash happened in a group of four motorcycles heading west on W. Blanchard Road, just west of S. Coldwater Road at about 1:30pm Sunday.

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department reports that the lead motorcycle in the group slowed down because of rough pavement.  The second motorcycle also slowed down.  The third, a 2007 Harley Davidson Dyna driven by a 47-year-old St. Johns woman, did not and hit the 2003 Harley Davidson Electra-Glide in front.  The fourth motorcycle, a 2013 Harley Davidson FXS Blackline driven by a 77-year-old Lansing man, crashed trying to avoid the pileup in front of him.

The woman was flown to Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland by LifeNet.  She was wearing a helmet.  The 77-year-old man was flown to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by AeroMed with head injuries.  He was not wearing a helmet.  Another man in the crash suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.  He was not wearing a helmet either.

Deputies say alcohol or other drugs were not a factor in the crash.
