LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder is calling for all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff until July 25 to honor the five service members killed last week in Chattanooga.

Four Marines and one Navy Sailor were killed after a gunman opened fire at two military centers July 16.

The governor’s office said in a statement on Tuesday that Snyder is joining President Barack Obama in calling for the flags to be lowered to half-staff.

“This senseless act of violence is a tragedy resulting in the loss of five courageous men dedicated to protecting the freedoms of our country,” Snyder said in a release.
