MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Muskegon County Chief Prosecutor Tim Maat tells FOX 17 their investigation continued to be “extraordinarily active” after a man was found dead in Muskegon Heights Saturday morning with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police responded to the 2300 block of Wood Street in an alleyway by houses near Riordan Street around 9:30 a.m. They believe the victim was shot sometime between 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.
The victim is identified as 23 year old Vernell Antwan Cornelius.
On Monday, Maat said authorities were carrying out search warrants and interviewing witnesses . He also told us they’re working with the prosecutors office, the parole department and nearly a dozen detectives to hopefully make a break in the case.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. Police are asking anyone with information on the incident or Cornelius’ whereabouts the night before to call the Silent Observer tip line at 321-72-CRIME, or Muskegon Heights Police at (231)-733-8900.
