CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An elderly woman is dead after a crash Monday afternoon in Isabella County.
Mary Ellen Hetzman, 90, was a passenger with her husband, Gene, 89, when they were hit broadside at the intersection of S. Shepherd Road and E. Broomfield Road at about 5:30pm. Deputies say that Gene Hetzman was heading east on E. Broomfield, stopped at the intersection and then proceeded, when he was struck by a 19-year-old Mt. Pleasant resident driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.
Mary Ellen was pronounced dead at the scene. Gene and the driver of a third car that was hit in the collision, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 19-year-old driver was not hurt.
Deputies are still investigating the crash.
