DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -- It took just seconds but the historic Park Avenue Hotel was successfully imploded Saturday morning.
The implosion of the vacant 22-story building is to make way for the new entertainment district which will also be the new home of the Detroit Red Wings.
The building has been vacant for many years but was named to the National Register of Historic Places.
The demolition of the building was the first major implosion in Detroit since the Hudson's store building was imploded in 1998.
