PORTAGE, Mich. — A 23 year-old man has been arrested after stealing an ambulance, according to the Portage Department of Police.
Paramedics responded to a medical call in the 2600 block of E. Heverly Drive Sunday afternoon. Shortly after leaving their ambulance unattended, paramedics noticed that a man had entered their vehicle
One of the paramedics returned to the vehicle and tried to make contact with him. He began to drive away, but the paramedic was able to get into the back of the ambulance.
The man only made it two blocks before abandoning the ambulance at the dead end of the street. Police say he ran and was found by officers in a swimming pool of a nearby home.
The man was arrested on charges of Unlawfully Driving Away of an Automobile (UDAA) and resisting and obstructing. He was taken to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department.
