Driver pinned in Holland car accident

HOLLAND TWP, Mich. – Two vehicles were involved in an accident that caused one driver to be pinned in their vehicle.

At approximately 12:35 a.m., the Ottawa County Sheriff Department responded to a car accident that involved two vehicles at the intersection of US 31 and James Street in Holland Township.

Juan Enriquez-Garcia, 23 years old, was heading westbound on James Street when he started across US 31 striking a southbound vehicle of 26-year-old Ernesto Cantu on the driver’s side.

Cantu was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated when authorities arrived on scene.

Deputies report that Enriquez-Garcia and Cantu both sustained injuries. However, Enriquez-Garcia refused medical attention but Cantu was sent to a local hospital.

Cantu is in stable condition.

Matthew Sherry, 19 years old, was a passenger in Cantu’s vehicle and was uninjured.

Deputies report that Enriquez-Garcia did not see Cantu before proceeding West.

After the investigation, Enriquez-Garcia was cited for failing to yield to right of way.
