Grand River dam capsizes canoes

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Three people and their canoes  found themselves in trouble this afternoon on the Grand River.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department responded to a call at approximately 12:09 p.m. Sunday afternoon that involved a couple of canoes and a kayak going over the dam near Bridge Street and the Gerald Ford Museum in downtown Grand Rapids.

The group had capsized after going over the dam.

As GRFD arrived on scene the three people had made it to shore and no one was hurt.

GRFD went downstream with rescue unites and helped collect the canoes and the kayaks.

They cleared the scene at 1:10 p.m.
