KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man long sought in the April 2014 shooting death of Jason Lee Vanostran, 29, has been arrested on murder and firearms charges.
Timothy Joe Salo, 29, of Lansing, was taken into custody by Michigan State Police in Lansing. He is now in Kalamazoo County Jail.
Salo is expected to be charged Tuesday with open murder, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a release.
The story of the shooting began on April 17, 2014, when police received a tip that they would find a body in a mobile home in Sherwood Forest Mobile Home Park at 1519 Olmstead Road. Vanostran’s body was found, and Salo was sought early on because he lived in the mobile home and was believed to have been present at the time of the shooting.
In announcing the arrest on June 15, the Kalamazoo Township Police Department did not say why 14 months passed before Salo was arrested.
