GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Austin Lotterman of Holland, hit by a car on Monday, died from his injuries Tuesday morning at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
The accident took place around 5:35 p.m. Monday on Adams Street west of 40th Avenue in Jamestown Township in Ottawa County.
Witness said they saw the 8-year-old running toward the road and look to the right before crossing the street. But he failed to look to the left and was hit by a car driven by Todd Berends, 54, of Holland.
Berends, himself a physician's assistant, administered medical aid to the boy at the scene before Austin was taken to the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation, but officers believed that Berends will not face any charges.
