Man charged in fatal Holland bike crash

HOLLAND, Mich. – A Holland Township man was charged Monday after a fatal crash with a bicycle a month ago.

Christopher Denherder, 28, was charged with one count of Moving Violation Causing Death in 58th District Court.  He was released on bond, pending his next court appearance.

Holland Police say that Denherder was heading west on 18th Street at River Avenue on May 2nd.  Traffic was backed up on River and another driver waiting in traffic montioned to Denherder to continue on 18th Street.  The bicyclist, a 47-year-old Holland man, was heading northbound and had the right-of-way when he was struck by Denherder’s vehicle.  The man suffered a closed-head injury and died at the hospital.

Police remind motorists that even though another driver may give the “OK” to proceed, the driver is responsible for making sure the way is clear.
