KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. – A second person has died following a crash on I-94.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. Saturday. Police say a set of dual-wheels fell off a semi-truck, flew over the median, and hit a small Honda, killing the female passenger in the backseat. That victim has been identified as 67-year-old Rebecca Avery of Glenview, Illinois.
On Sunday, the driver of the Honda, Michael Ditewig, succumbed to the injuries sustained in that crash. A third person in that vehicle was also hurt.
Police say the three people in the Honda were traveling to a wedding in Detroit when the crash happened.
The crash shut down a stretch of I-94 for nearly four hours. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the wheels to come off the semi-truck.
