Muskegon Co. teen pleads guilty in death of newborn daughter

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A Muskegon County teen has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of her newborn daughter.

According tot he Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office, Jessica Lynn Brewster pleaded guilty Friday morning in 14th Circuit Court.

Brewster, 18, is accused of suffocating her newborn shortly after giving birth Oct. 15, 2014.  According to court documents, she admitted to police that she covered the baby’s face with a towel after she started to cry, fearing she heard someone walking down the hallway toward the bathroom.

Officials say Brewster then buried her daughter Oct. 16 at the Trinity Senior Living Complex on Shonat Street where her grandmother lives.    The infant’s body was discovered by employees Nov. 10 and Brewster was arrested later that day.

Brewster will be sentenced at a later date.
