HOLLAND, Mich. – A 47-year-old Holland man is dead after police say he was struck by a car while riding his bike.
Officers from Holland Public Safety responded to reports of a car hitting a bike near the intersection of 18th St. and River Ave. on Saturday just after 3:50 p.m.
The man reportedly suffered a closed head injury after being struck by the vehicle, and was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.
Police say the accident occured while the bicyclist was traveling north on River Ave. when a 2013 Volkswagen Passat hit him traveling west on 18th St. The driver of the car was a 28-year-old man from Holland Township.
It is believed that alcohol did not play a factor in the crash.
Portions of south-bound River Ave. and 18th St. were shut down for about three hours Saturday afternoon while police investigated the incident.
