KALAMAZOO COUNTY – Authorities from local, county and state police agencies are looking for a suspect involved in a shooting who was tracked to a Walmart in Kalamazoo County, prompting a store lockdown.
Included in the response was a K-9 officer at the business at 6065 Gull Road Friday evening.
Authorities with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department tell FOX17 officers responded to reports of someone firing a handgun at a nearby apartment complex earlier in the evening. Investigators would later learn the shooting stemmed from an alleged domestic dispute.
Though no injuries were reported at the initial shooting, officers obtained information the suspect involved likely ran into the nearby Walmart and wasn’t immediately seen leaving, leading to the police response. The store was locked down while deputies searched for the suspect.
Officers gave clearance for employees to re-enter the store shortly after 10 p.m.
The suspect got away, though deputies said they found the handgun outside the store nearby.
Investigators said they’re also looking into the possibility the suspect may have changed clothes while in the store and made an exit.
Employees of the store were gathered at a nearby AutoZone parking lot during the initial response.
No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
