SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 32-year-old man from Montague was arrested after crashing a stolen vehicle on Sunday.
It all started around 3:00 p.m. in Grant Township when deputies with the Oceana County Sheriff’s Department were advised to be on the lookout for a possible stolen vehicle. Police say it wasn’t long before deputies spotted the vehicle in question, a 1997 Chevy Silverado, parked on the side of the road near the intersection of Cleveland Road and 88th Avenue near New Era.
As the deputy pulled up behind the truck, the suspect waived his wallet out the window. Police say as the deputy approached, the suspect sped off down 88th Avenue.
Deputies and Michigan State Police continued the chase down Winston Street in Clay Banks Township. Police say one of the deputies struck the suspect’s vehicle, causing it to slide down into a ditch before striking a power pole.
The suspect was arrested and was expected to be arraigned on several charges, including possession of stolen property on Monday.
