GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Toronto Marlies win over the Rockford IceHogs clinched a Midwest Division title for the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday night.
Now the team that helped the Griffins to their division championship has become their first opponent in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Grand Rapids will meet Toronto in a best-of-five series in the American Hockey League’s Western Conference quarterfinals starting next weekend, the league announced on Sunday.
The series will start with two games in Toronto, followed by three games at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids (Games 4 and 5 will only be played if necessary):
- Game 1: Saturday, April 25 – at Toronto, 3:00 p.m.
- Game 2: Sunday, April 26 – at Toronto, 3:00 p.m.
- Game 3: Wednesday, April 29 – at Grand Rapids, 7:00 p.m.
- Game 4: Saturday, May 2 – at Grand Rapids, 7:00 p.m. (if necessary)
- Game 5: Sunday, May 3 – at Grand Rapids, 5:00 p.m. (if necessary)
The Griffins won their last three meetings with the Marlies this season after losing their first game against Toronto in 2014-2015. Grand Rapids outscored the Marlies 17-4 in those wins.
