MILWAUKEE -- Three people are dead following an incident that began as a fatal accident and turned into a double shooting.
Investigators said a 2-year-old child ran into the street on Sunday near N. 48th Street and was struck and killed by a vehicle.
The driver, Archie Brown Jr., 41, remained at the scene of the accident and was shot in the head by a gunman, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He died at the scene.
A 15-year-old boy was also shot at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
It remains unclear if the teen was a passenger inside the vehicle or a passerby.
The gunman, who has not been identified, is still at large, police said.
Archie Brown Sr, 68, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel his son, Archie Brown Jr., had four daughters, including a 6-month-old.
“My son’s just been murdered,” he told the paper. “If I am a man of God and I believe in the Bible, nothing happens without a reason. What is the reason, I don’t know,” said the father, a street minister who goes by the nickname Prophet Brown.
Milwaukee Alderman Joe Davis told WITI this was a tough day for everyone involved.
"I know that the people in that house may have been very, very upset about the incident — the vehicular incident that occurred, but you don’t solve these types of things with guns, and start shooting and taking other people’s lives. Today is not a good day for the city of Milwaukee — when an infant can lose his life, and then someone, a Good Samaritan tries to do the right thing and then all of a sudden a tragedy occurs."
