HASTINGS, Mich.-- It's a sound that Allan Taylor has heard countless times while living next door to Zackary Rosenberger in Hastings.

He said Rosenberg would fire up his motorcycle on a regular basis.

"I see him riding all the time," Taylor said.

Sunday, was no exception. Taylor said Rosenberger and a friend of his pulled the bike out of the garage and went for a ride at about 8 p.m.

"They were riding around. I heard them take off yesterday going up the alley," Taylor said. "I saw something on the news that there was a bike accident."

At about 10 p.m., investigators said Rosenberger and his friend, 29-year-old Jason Roe crashed the bike on W. State Road between Douglas and Hammond. While Taylor heard about the crash on the news, he had no idea that his neighbor and Roe spent the night outside. The two were found in a ditch at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Rosenberger was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he's listed in critical condition. Roe was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It's hard when somebody [gets] hurt," Taylor said. "Especially your child."

FOX 17 reached out to Roe's family, who said he's the father of two young girls.

Taylor said he noticed Rosenberger was wearing a helmet. According to the Barry County Sheriff's Department, Roe was not.

BCSD is still looking into what caused them to leave the road.
