DETROIT, Mich. — David Price walked off the mound with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to a standing ovation.

His first Opening Day start as a Detroit Tiger was more than deserving.

Price threw 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball and second-inning home runs from J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila propelled the Tigers to a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Twins to start the 2015 MLB season in Detroit.

Price (1-0) threw just 101 pitches, scattering five hits and striking out five. Joe Nathan retired former Tiger Torii Hunter on a check-swing strikeout for his first save of the year.

The closest the Twins could get to scoring came in the top of the third inning, when Kurt Suzuki launched a Price pitch to deep left center, but free agent pick-up Yoenis Cespedes robbed the Minnesota catcher of a homer with a beautiful catch over the fence. Cespedes also went 2-for-4 in his regular season debut with Detroit.

The Tigers (1-0) are off Tuesday before continuing their series with Minnesota (0-1) on Wednesday at 1:08 p.m.
