IONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two girls, ages 5 and 8, are in critical condition Friday after a three-vehicle crash on M-66 near Tuttle Road.

According to a release from Michigan State Police, the crash happened at about 11:06 a.m. when a 31-year-old man driving south in a 2004 Honda crossed the center line and side-swiped a northbound vehicle.

The Honda then struck another northbound vehicle, a 2014 Kia, head on.

There were three young children, ages 3, 5 and 8, in the Kia with their 35-year-old mother.  The 5 and 8-year-old are both in critical condition, officials said.

The occupants of the other vehicles were also transported to the hospital  with non-life threatening injuries.  The crash remains under investigation.
