BARRY COUNTY, Mich. — A Hastings man will spend at least at least seven years behind bars for his role in a deadly crash last summer.
In June 2014, deputies say now Matthew Nosanov, now 20, led officers on a nearly five-mile chase after refusing to stop for a deputy after he was spotted speeding near M-37 and Adams Road just before 4:00 a.m.
The chase ended near Bass Road and Patterson Road in Thornapple Township, right by the Allegan County line, after Nosanov’s vehicle collided with another vehicle driven by Geovanni Mazariegos Ramirez, 24. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Nosanov also suffered serious injuries after being thrown from his vehicle following the collision.
Nosanov was sentenced Thursday to between seven years plus a month to 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to operating while intoxicated causing death and fleeing and eluding a police officer causing death.
Nosanov was also ordered to pay to the family of the victim $12,600 in restitution for funeral and other expenses.
