BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Four children were transported to the hospital after being left alone and starting a fire with a lighter Friday.

At 4:18 p.m. Friday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fire in a house at 6325 48th Ave. in Blendon Township. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found four victims — all juvenile children between the ages of 4 and 11 — who were transported for possible smoke inhalation treatment to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Police said none of the children’s names will be released.

The investigation showed that the four children had been left alone for the day and started a fire in the attic with a lighter. All were transported to the Grand Rapids hospital for treatment of possible smoke inhalation.

Information about the incident was forwarded to Child Protective Services for investigation.
