Deputies search for man wanted for allegedly shooting girlfriend

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Officials in Berrien County are searching for a man who they said tried killing his girlfriend Sunday afternoon.

Deputies were called just after 3 p.m. to Aaron’s Mini-Storage on N. 5th Street in Niles Township after a report of a woman being shot.

The 24-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in South Bend, Ind., in for surgery. As of Sunday night, the woman was listed in critical condition.

Investigators said the victim’s boyfriend, Michael Jerome Exom III, 28, of Niles, shot the woman after an argument and then took off.

He is facing charges of assault with intent to murder and felony firearms.

Deputies said Exom is black, 5’10”, 210 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and he is considered armed and dangerous.

He was last seen driving away in a light-blue, four-door 2004 Buick Park Avenue with the possible Michigan registration of DCP 0878.
