NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — A woman was flown to the hospital after a man pulled her from a mobile home fire late Thursday night.
The call came in at around 11:30 p.m. for a fire on E. 56th Street. According to the Newaygo fire chief, the home was already a total loss when crews arrived on the scene. They described heavy flames coming from the structure.
The chief said that a man and woman were inside at the time of the fire. The man was able to pull the woman to safety, but she suffered severe burns. Aero Med flew her to the hospital, but her condition is not immediately clear. The man also suffered some injuries but he is expected to be okay.
At least five different departments responded to the scene to get everything under control. The chief says the first fire hydrant they attempted to utilize had frozen over. Given the rural area, it took some time to get to another working hydrant.
