DEARBORN, Mich. — A large tanker exploded Wednesday on I-94 near the Wyoming exit in Dearborn.
According to WJBK, the fire started at around 11:15 a.m. and emergency crews battled the blaze for nearly two hours.
I-94 is shut down in the area in both directions. The Michigan Department of Transportation tells WJBK the drivers on eastbound I-94 should get off at Southfield and westbound drivers should get off at I-96.
It’s unclear what caused the tanker to explode. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to recover, according to WJBK. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
Officials say that stretch of I-94 will likely be closed into Wednesday evening.
