VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A mother and her son were sentenced Monday after officials say they abused a young boy over the course of several years.
Peggy Hamilton was sentenced to between 45 months and 15 years in prison for the charge of first-degree child abuse, according to 36th Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Brickley’s office. Randal Hamilton was sentenced to between 81 months and 15 years for the same charge.
As part of a plea deal, the charge of torture was dropped for both of them, an official at Judge Brickley’s office said.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, the Hamiltons were accused of abusing a now 11-year-old boy by chaining him to the floor, tying him to a bed and denying him food, among other things.
The two were arrested in Bangor last summer after the boy was found running away from home.
