GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — A 39-year-old man has been charged after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a sword.

Samuel Antonio Moya Jr. was arrested after a brief standoff in Grand Haven Friday morning.    He was charged later in the day with felonious assault and domestic violence, third offense.

According to a release, Grand Haven police officers responded to the 400 block of Elliot Avenue at approximately 12:54 a.m.

Officials say Moya initially refused to come out and his girlfriend fled with two children, one of whom the couple had together.

Moya had a 30-minute phone conversation with a Grand Haven Public Safety lieutenant before he surrendered and was arrested.

His bond was set at $50,000.
