WYOMING, Mich. -- Two people were found dead of gunshot wounds in Wyoming around 10:57 p.m. Sunday, said the Wyoming Department of Public Safety on Monday.

A man driving by called police to a parking lot at the southeast corner of Byron Center Avenue and Porter Street SW, officers found a 50-year-old man lying dead on the ground next to a black 2004 Dodge Durango. Inside the SUV was the body of a 44-year-old woman.

Both died from gunshot wounds, said WDPS, and it is believed the man turned the gun on himself. A weapon was found at the scene.

It appears the man first tried to set the Durango on fire, when officers found part of the inside of the SUV charred.

Captain Kim Koster said the woman was the man's wife, they were separated and had a 15-year-old son together, who lived with the woman.

Koster said this is a domestic crime and their hearts go out to the families. She also said it is not a reflection on this neighborhood.

"I want people to understand that it is a safe neighborhood, this appears at this time to be something domestic-related," said Koster. "It is not some random situation that occurred."

Their autopsies were scheduled for Monday, and family is still being notified.
