Downtown Market gets ‘social’ with announcement of second restaurant

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Social Kitchen & Bar is the latest restaurant to join the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids.

The announcement was made Monday, marking another Detroit-area based restaurant choosing to set up shop in the market following the announcement from Slow's Bar BQ last October.

Zack Sklar, a leading, Detroit-area chef, owns the original Social Kitchen & Bar in Birmingham, Mich. as well as Mex, and Beau’s in Bloomfield, Mich.

Sklar and his team will open a Grand Rapids location of Social Kitchen & Bar inside the Market Hall, as well as a satellite location of his catering company, Cutting Edge Cuisine, which will also be based at the Downtown Market.

This is the second full-service restaurant to commit to the Market.

“We are extremely pumped to open a restaurant in Grand Rapids, create a base for our catering operation, utilize some of the produce of West Michigan’s farm community, and join this incredible neighborhood of artisans," Sklar said in a press release.

The restaurant will feature "refined" comfort food in what is described will be a casual environment. The menu is expected to change with the seasons using ingredients from other vendors in the Downtown Market’s Outdoor Farmers’ Market and indoor Market Hall.
